In September 1976, ETV was extended to the junior secondary level, beginning with Secondary 1, and reaching Secondary 3 in 1978. In 1999, ETV was further extended to Primary 1 and 2 at the junior primary level, and programmes for Secondary 4 and 5 were also produced on selected topics.
In 2000, a special time slot for teachers was introduced to broadcast Teacher Resource Programmes which include teacher education and resources for teachers' use and reference. At present, ETV programmes in the subject areas of English Language, Chinese Language, Mathematics and Putonghua are produced for both primary and secondary schools. In addition, programmes for Science and Personal, Social and Humanities Education (PSHE, previously known as Social Studies) are provided for secondary schools and those in General Studies are provided for primary schools. Programmes in each subject area at each level are regularly broadcast to schools, Monday to Friday, over a period of 32 weeks within the school year. Web-based reference materials for use with the ETV programmes are also provided. Some programmes are recorded in the form of VCDs or interactive multimedia CD-ROMs for distribution to schools.
All government and aided schools are provided with the necessary television and recording equipment for reception of ETV programmes.
By visiting the ETV homepage, teachers, students and members of the public may know more about the services provided, check the timetables of ETV programmes, download video clips and interactive educational software, and give their comments on ETV services.
